# ChatGPT

{% hint style="warning" %}
The **Nifty plugin** in the ChatGPT directory is under review by OpenAI and doesn't have our latest tools, including item editing. Until the review is complete, use a **custom connection** as described below. If you already installed the plugin, uninstall it: open its [plugin page](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6a73e4d5bcf0819198829ebfccd0b014), select the **⋯** menu, and choose **Uninstall**.
{% endhint %}

### Add a custom connection

Custom connections require **Developer mode**, which is available on paid ChatGPT plans. On Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces, an admin must allow custom MCP connections first.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Enable Developer mode

Open **Settings → Security and login** and turn on **Developer mode**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Add Nifty

Open [ChatGPT Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins), select the **+** button, and create a new connection with:

* **Name:** Nifty (Custom)
* **Server URL:** `https://api.nifty.ai/api/mcp`
* **Authentication:** OAuth

Select **Create**, then sign in to your Nifty account when prompted.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Start a conversation

Open a new conversation and add **Nifty (Custom)** from the tools menu. ChatGPT will ask you to confirm before any action that changes your account or listings.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Troubleshooting

**Missing a tool, or a tool that fails with "Tool not found"?** New tools are released regularly, but ChatGPT keeps the tool list from when the connection was created. Uninstalling and reinstalling isn't enough; delete the connection and create it again:

1. Open [your plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins?view=personal), select the **⋯** menu next to **Nifty (Custom)**, and choose **Manage**.
2. On the connection page, select the **⋯** menu at the top right and choose **Delete**.
3. [Add the custom connection](#add-a-custom-connection) again from scratch, then start a new conversation.

If you're using the Nifty plugin from the directory instead, switch to a custom connection as described above.

### Known issues

**Photos don't display in ChatGPT Chat.** The connector sends them, but Chat discards them, so you'll see the photo count and indexes without the images themselves. Recreating the connection doesn't help.

Photos do display in ChatGPT **Work**, so switch to Work if reviewing photos matters to you. Work needs a paid ChatGPT plan and isn't available on the free plan. [Claude](/mcp-server/mcp-server/claude.md) shows photos in ordinary conversations.

See [Connect via MCP](/mcp-server/mcp-server.md) for what the assistant can do and the requirements.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nifty.ai/mcp-server/mcp-server/chatgpt.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
